I'm trying to think of what they are called and o can't remember. They are short man-made walls around small islands put in place to prevent erosion. They aren't called barriers or retaining walls. Thanks for your help!

    Groynes (groin in the US) are walls built to prevent erosion, but they don't encircle Islands, they prevent longshore drift.
